How it all began...

Ever wondered what made us start Sugaholic? At that time, it wasn't a passion for baking... it wasn't a passion to make money... and it definitely was not a passion to grow...

At first I wanted to participate in an event just to get rid of my routine life boredom, any event where I could experiment with my paper crafting skills and have the thrill alongside of showcasing them. But due to a hectic work life, I never got around to doing much.

So when my sister expressed her interest in baking, I jumped and said, why not bake some cupcakes and call our friends to visit us at the event. She said, lol we are nothing... who will come... moreover who will buy... To which I thought, true! Who would?

But I so wanted to do something different!!! I would keep doodling at work and then it struck me. I was already sponsoring one child's education in India. Why not make this money to sponsor another child! That way alongside doing something differentwe would be doing it for a cause. And that's it... I rushed back home and excitedly told Ravisha this. She said "yup, that's brilliant! but will people come to this?" And I said, "I don't know, but let's do it anyway." She agreed and we started brainstorming on ideas of how our stall should be. Soon we realised to we needed a brand name to invite everyone. But a brand name for what??? We weren't really thinking of pursuing this after the event!

But it would look too silly to invite people without a brand name. So after going over quite a few names, (some which I didn't like, some which Ravisha didn't) I woke her up in the middle of one night and said SUGAHOLIC. She said you are weird, let me sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!! Do what you want. And I, took that as her consent, and frantically started creating an event, designed a card and voila! We came up with the below

And then all we did was put in our entire energy in inviting people in order to raise funds for the girl we wanted to sponsor. Below is the link to our very first event. People didn’t even realise Sugaholic was a new brand created by us. Haha, most of them just ignored the event thinking it was spam.

Family and friends came. People who we were not even expecting came. They were all there to support us for a cause we deeply believed in. Other than them, only one Indian family who were strolling in the mall bought from us. Below are a few snapshots from the event :)

We were thankful, grateful and were almost sold out and raised the EXACT amount that we would need to sponsor the child. It was an ecstatic feeling and my sister and I were soooooooooooooo happy that we had reached our goal. We were so excited to go online and send an email to the organization about the sponsorship. At that time we didn't even think just 2 days later we would be getting our very first order :) (More about that in our next post tomorrow..)

I posted pictures of our event on Facebook thinking that would be it till our next event maybe 6 months down the line. Who knew that what lay ahead would be life changing!

Let us know your thoughts... Till then, be a suga xx

The Devilish Taz!

We LOVE Taz!!! And so when we got an opportunity of designing one we grabbed it!!! Since we specialize in designing miniature stuff on ganache cakes and our ferrero rocher cake is our best seller, a lot of people end up wanting small customizations on the same. This one turned out even better than expected and the birthday girl loved it!!!

India - The World Champions of Cricket - CWC 2011

Being Indians, it was our greatest moment of pride when India won the World Cup in CWC 2011. And with Nike's new slogan for the Men in Blue popping up everywhere, we just knew we had to make a "Bleed Blue" Cupcake. So we decided to go ahead and do so, which was then supplied to a new cafe in Dubai called Tea Junction, for the India Pakistan semi final. Of course when India won, the cafe sold almost all of these :) All Indians that day, were truly Bleeding Blue!

These cake pops too were made for the India Pakistan semis for a bunch of boys who were getting together to watch the match and cheer India. All pops were dipped in Milk Chocolate and had edible flags on them. The boys got back to me they had a ball with them ;) (pun intended).

Finally, these mini cuppies were made to celebrate India's victory in the finals against Sri Lanka. Oh what a match. My sister and I had the Tiranga Colors (tri colors of the Indian flag like below) painted on our cheeks and finished all our work early that day to support Team Blue! We won beautifully and the whole of Dubai became ecstatic. Celebrations were seen like never before. And in almost every office in Dubai the next day, a cake was ordered to celebrate India's win! We too were lucky enough to supply these Tiranga cupcakes to a few offices :)

This day will surely be memorable to all Indians. And for us at Sugaholic, it was a day we got to honor our country through edible art!

Dedicated to all Bankers :)

This cake was requested by a sweet wife to appreciate the long hours and efforts her husband puts into being a dedicated employee at the Commercial Bank of Dubai :) She left it upto us to think of the concept and well what better way than to make him feel good and appreciated for what he does. And so we put that in the form of a cake :)

The CBD Cake :)
